2018: Last week
Fernando joined forces with Orquesta Sinfónica del
Principado de Asturias and recorded his new score for
upcoming sci-fi thriller DURANTE LA TORMENTA for director
Oriol Paulo (Contratiempo). You can watch a brief clips from

The film (also known as MIRAGE or MIENTRAS DURE LA TORMENTA)
will be released on November 30th.
August 25, 2018: Fernando Velázquez has recently recorded
his score for Koldo Serra's 70
BINLANDENS (aka 70 BIG ONES). The movie is
expected to premiere in Spain later this year, alhtough no

2018: Quartet Records will continue their
series of Fernando Velázquez's scores with upcoming LAS LEYES
DE LA TERMODINÁMICA, which should be available in April.
Specific date is yet to be announced and will be added as soon
as confirmed.
February 10, 2018: Varese Sarabande will
release Fernando Velázquez's score for SUBMERGENCE on April
13th. The album is already available to pre-order from Amazon
and more details will be added as soon as available.
February 03,
2018: SUBMERGENCE was finally released in
theatres in Spain and many other countries will follow through
entire 2018. So far there is no official confirmation but at
the end of the trailer it is possibly suggested the soundtrack
might be available from WaterTower Records - if so it is
expected around the U.S. release date of the film, which is
currently set for April 13th. On the other hand it is very
likely there might be an earlier European release as well,
which is yet to be confirmed. You can at least watch the new
trailer below.
January 19,
2018: Three new albums are now available from
QUARTET RECORDS - each with
first 50 copies signed by the composer. In other news EL
GUARDIAN INVISIBLE is now sold out and if you haven't got a
copy yet and can find one for a reasonable price, do not
hesitate.
December 30,
2017: Quartet Records will start the new year
with release of THREE scores composed by Fernando Velázquez.
Besides previously announced release of animated movie DEEP,
the label will also release two brand new scores: QUE BAJE
DIOS Y LO VEA opens theatrically in Spain on January 5th,
while THI MAI will be released only a week later. Specific
release date is yet to be announced but the details will be
posted as soon as available.
December 07, 2017: Quartet Records has released THE
ORPHANAGE as a special 10th Anniversary. Here is an excerpt
from the announcement discussing reasons for the new recording
of the score. For more information, tracklist, samples and to
order your copy, visit Quartet Records. It may seem
unusual that a barely ten-year-old score is being re-recorded,
but giving The Orphanage a second chance to shine is an
undertaking of which Quartet Records is especially proud. This
tenth-anniversary edition includes every note Fernando wrote
for the film in its original conception to give fans a bold,
new take on a modern classic. The original soundtrack album
was negotiated and signed off before the recordings were made,
and while Fernando wasn't quite satisfied with the
performance, the album had to be released nonetheless. It was
a problematic recording, without much possibility of
correcting mistakes (do not forget that The Orphanage was a
low-budget film). When the possibility of expanding the
original 47-minute-long program was being discussed in early
2017, a review of the original multi-track recordings revealed
that time hasn't been kind to Velázquez's first major score,
so a new plan was formulated. The composer took it upon
himself to revisit the project by doing a brand-new recording
with the Euskadi Symphony Orchestra, the same ensemble he used
for A Monster Calls, Pride and Prejudice and
Zombies,Submergence and his "Concert Suites" album. By using
one of his favorite orchestras and his usual recording
engineer, Marc Blanes, whom he couldn't use on his seminal
score, Quartet Records and Fernando Velazquez present the same
music he wrote a decade ago (including previously unrecorded
alternates), using the know-how and skills he has gained in
the past 10 years to bring fans a new recording of which we
can all be proud.
November 24,
2017: While previously announced reissue of EL
ORFANATO is getting slightly delayed and should be available
early next month, Quartet Records has already announced
another Fernando Velázquez's release - his score for 2017
animated movie DEEP, which should be available in January.

2017: As has been previously announced Quartet
Records will release special anniversary edition of THE
ORPHANAGE featuring complete score running over 70 minutes.
The album will be available on CD at the end of November and
at the end of December as a 2xLP DeLuxe Gatefold
edition.

2017: MARROWBONE was released yesterday and you
can get a copy through most specialized retailers. Visit Quartet Records for the
details and samples. The CD edtion includes 4 bonus tracks not
available digitally. Here is an exceprt from the description:
Fernando Velázquez has composed one
of his most special, extensive and complex scores. It
encompasses the sound of Gothic terror, full-blooded
romanticism, lovely pastoral passages and a return to the
openly symphonic sound that we miss in other current scores.
Skillfully and precisely performed by the Asturias Symphony
Orchestra under the baton of the composer. The CD includes 4
bonus tracks not included in the digital release, and the
package features a 16-page booklet with in-depth liner notes
and a track-by-track analysis by the film's director, Sergio
G. Sánchez. The movie, produced
by J.A. Bayona, will be released next Friday and Spain and you

which will include two Fernando Velázquez's scores during the
next 2 months. While in October the label will release his
brand new score for upcoming thriller MARROWBONE (check out
the trailer on Youtube),
November will see reissue of his long out of print score for
J. A. Bayona's THE ORPHANAGE. For more information visit,

2017: Little heads-up regarding a couple
Fernando Velázquez's scores available on Quartet Records:
CRIMSON PEAK is one of our bestsellers
(especially in digital), and we have the rights for 25 years,
so it's probably the physical CD will be back in stock at some
point, but we can not guarantee when. Anyway, Amazon and other
retails still have it in stock. With current films, we
need to be cautious, it's very expensive to keep these in
stock if the album does not sell well. CONTRATIEMPO, for
example, we have reached to 500 with dificulty, and it's
enough. The same with GERNIKA and others. If the film is not
too popular, the score is relegated to the collectors niche,
and 500 (sometimes 1000) is a high number even for Velázquez.
But all these are also available in digital, and could come
back on CD if there is a considerable demand.
April 11,
2017: Fernando Velázquez recently recorded his
score for upcoming thriller EL SECRETO DE MARROWBONE with
Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias (OSPA). You can
watch brief video from the sessions featuring a few clips from
the score as well as short interview with the composer (in
Spanish only). The movie will be released in Spain on October
27th.
March 14,
2017: From FMR: Fernando Velazquez is composing
the music for the upcoming romantic thriller SUBMERGENCE. The
film is directed by Wim Wenders and stars James McAvoy, Alicia
Vikander, Charlotte Rampling and Alexander Siddig. The movie
is based on the novel by J.M. Ledgard and tells the story of a
water engineer who is taken hostage in Somalia by Jihadist
fighters who suspect that he is a British spy. Erin Dignam
(The Yellow Handkerchief, The Last Face) wrote the
screenplay. The movie is currently in
post-production and is expected to premiere later this
year.
March 01, 2017: Quartet Records just announce their
release of Fernando Velázquez's score for thriller EL GUARDIÁN
INVISIBLE, which will be release theatrically in Spain this

description: Fernando Velázquez provides an intense, exciting

received his first Goya Award for his score for J. A. Bayona's

January 11,
2017: from FMR: Fernando Velazquez has been
tapped to score the upcoming psychological thriller EL SECRETO
DE MARROWBONE. The film marks the directorial debut of writer
Sergio G. Sanchez (The Orphanage, The Impossible, Palm Trees
in the Snow) and stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Mia Goth, George
Mackay and Charlie Heaton. The movie revolves around four
children who hide from the world after their mother's death on
a farm that holds a terrible secret. Sanchez also wrote the
screenplay. J.A. Bayona is producing the project with Alvaro
Augustin (Pan's Labyrinth, Agora), Belen Atienza and Ghislain
Barros. Velazquez has previously scored all of Bayona's
features, including last year's A Monster Calls, which is
currently playing in theaters nationwide. Marrowbone is
currently in post-production and is expected to premiere later
this year. Velazquez's upcoming projects also
include Mateo Gil's LAS LEYES DE TERMODINÁMICA, as well as the
Spanish animated feature DEEP directed by Julio Soto
Gurpide.

03, 2017: Two news to start the new year with.. on
the positive side of things: Quartet Records will release
Fernando Velázquez's score for thriller CONTRATIEMPO (The
Invisible Guest) on January 5th. Purchase link and more info
will be posted as soon as available. And now something
different... Although Fernando just won the MundoBSO's Award
for Best Spanish Film Score for A MONSTER CALLS, he won't
reunite with director J. A. Bayona on upcoming Jurassic World
sequel. According to the latest information, Michael Giacchino
will return to score the movie.

July 19, 2016: ZIPI Y ZAPE Y LA ISLA DEL
CAPITÁN score CD was just released today by Quartet
records and is shipping now. The album features almost 80
minutes of original score conducted by the composer and
performed by the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. Quartet
Records also reissued album from the first Zipi y Zape movie,
which has been out of print for a while. Both
albums will be available from all specialized retailers

Saturn Award for his score for CRIMSON PEAK. The other

collection of concert suites from various scores of Fernando
Velázquez. The album contains some of the greatest hits
including EL ORFANATO, THE IMPOSSIBLE or ZIPI Y ZAPE - all
newly arranged for concert presentation and recorded by
Euskadi Symphony Orchestra and Landarbaso Chorus, under the
baton of the composer. The album was recorded by Marc Blanes
at the orchestra stage in San Sebastián. The 28-page booklet

July 07, 2015: Fernando Velazquez is currently composing
the music for the upcoming horror comedy PRIDE AND PREJUDICE
AND ZOMBIES. The film is directed by Burr Steers (17 Again, Charlie St. Cloud, Igby Goes Down) and stars Lily
James, Bella Heathcote, Sam Riley, Jack Huston, Douglas Booth,
Matt Smith, Charles Dance and Lena Headey. The movie is based
on the 2009 novel by Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Dark Shadows) and is a new take on
Jane Austen's classic tale of the tangled relationships
between lovers from different social classes in 19th century
England, which is faced with a new challenge -an army of
undead zombies. Steers has also co-written the
screenplay with David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook, The Fighter). Brian Oliver &
Tyler Thompson (Black Swan, Rush, The
Woman in Black) are producing the project with Allison
Shearmur (Cinderella), Sean
McKittrick (Donnie Darko, Bad Words), Natalie Portman, Annette
Savitch and Marc Butan (Confidence, Get Over It ). PRIDE AND PREJUDICE
AND ZOMBIES is set to be released on February 5, 2016 by

2015: Two new trailers for upcoming CRIMSON
PEAK were just released. The movie opens in early October as
planned and hopefully the soundtrack album will be announced
closer to the film's release date. Stay tuned for more
details.
April 26,
2015: Fernando Velázquez was one of the guests
of FILM MUSIC PRAGUE festival, where he also conducted the
world premiere of his main theme from Guillermo del Toro's
upcoming CRIMSON PEAK. You can watch two videos below. The
first is a collection of highlights including a little speech
by Harry Gregson-Williams, a clip from his Shrek suite, then a
short introduction and segment of another world premiere - How
to Train your Dragon 2 - and then follows Fernando
Velázquez (at 7:32) first giving the short speech and
then conducting EL ORFANATO and THE IMPOSSIBLE. At the very
end of the video you can also watch the finale of the whole
programme - Overture from SEXYKILLER. The other video is
interview with Fernando discussing his work on CRIMSON PEAK

2015: Fernando Velázquez has been hired to
compose the original score for upcoming Antena 3 TV miniseries
APACHES. The series is based on the book by Miguel Sáez Carral
and stars Verónica Echegui, Claudia Traisac and Alberto
Ammann. So far no specific release date has been annouced,
but the series is expected to be aired in the 2nd
half of 2015.
February 17, 2015: Fernando Velázquez will be the guest of
fourth annual Film Music Prague festival, which will also
feature film music concert with Czech National Symphony
Orchestra and Kuhn's Choir of Prague on April 23rd, 2015 -
featuring many of the greatest hits including EL ORFANATO, THE
IMPOSSIBLE, HERCULES as well as exclusive world premiere of
Guillermo del Toro's upcoming CRIMSON PEAK. All these pieces
will be conducted by Fernando Velázquez himself, while rest of
the concert (including music by Harry Gregson-Williams and
John Powell) will be conducted by James Shearman. For more

September 11, 2014: Fernando Velázquez will participate in
upcoming Festival des Musiques a l'Image in Paris on November
1st and 2nd. The programme of the festival consists of master
classes (on Nov 1st) and closing night concert on November
2nd. The other guests of the festival will be Michael

2014: Tickets for Fernando Velázquez's upcoming
concert in Seville will go on sale this Monday and may be
purchased either at the ticket office of the Teatro de la
Maestranza or at www.generaltickets.com. The concert,
which will take place on July 3rd, will feature Real Orquesta
Sinfónica de Sevilla performing suites from Lo imposible,
Lope, Zipi y Zape, Mamá, El orfanato, El Hombre Esponja,

2014: According to
the Film Music Reporter, Fernando Velázquez has signed to
score upcoming HERCULES for director Brett Ratner. Dwayne
Johnson stars in the title role alongside Ian McShane, Joseph
Fiennes, Peter Mullan, Rufus Sewell, John Hurt, Rebecca
Ferguson, Ingrid Bolso Berdal, Aksel Hennie and Reece Ritchie.
The movie based on the graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian
Wars is a revisionist take on the classic myth set in a
grounded world where the supernatural does not exist. HERCULES
is set to be released on July 25, 2014 by Paramount Pictures.
