Guy
Farley (born 5th February 1963 in Haslemere, UK), who works out of Sphere Studios,
a state of the art recording complex in Battersea, has recently
emerged onto the international film scene as one of Europe’s leading
composers. His style is warm, melodic and distinctive, however it is
the variety of his film scores that sets him apart from his
contemporaries; his music includes sweeping orchestral scores, world
music (Indian, African and Asian), contemporary sound design and
programming to collaborations with pop artists and producers.
Guy has just completed scoring the US movie,
The Flock starring Richard Gere and Claire Danes,
The Christmas Miracle Of Jonathan Toomey starring
Joely Richardson and Tom Berenger, and Dot.Com for
Fado Films, as well as Operazione
Pilota, an Italian feature. He also recently completed
scoring The Broken, filmed in London by Oscar
nominated director, Sean Ellis. He is currently scoring
Knife Edge for director, Anthony Hickox
and producers, Janette Day and Pippa Cross, and starring Hugh
Bonneville. In 2005/06 he scored four feature films and two further
scores appeared on commercial soundtracks, Modigliani
and Mother Theresa of Calcutta. Guy's work is also to
be heard on Sean Ellis’ directorial debut, Cashback,
starring Emilia Fox, and the 2 part Italian film L’Uomo che
Sognava con Le Aquila, directed by Vittorio Sindoni. He also
scored Land of the Blind starring Ralph Fiennes and
Donald Sutherland, and Irish Jam a comedy with Eddie
Griffin and Anna Friel.
....GUY FARLEY is one of the
most promising up and coming composers right now. In my opinion, his
melodically sensitive and masterfully orchestrated score for
Modigliani
was one of the five best film scores all categories last
year. It has now been released by Milan Records in France…..
Scoring an action flick might not be the most
hip thing you can do, but some of the music Farley wrote last year
ranks among some of the best score written for any film. And
although it’s action score, melody is the main asset – this is
actually the case with all of the Guy Farley works I’ve heard. For
one piece in particular, Farley treated his terrific main theme in a
restrained, elegant and unexpectedly beautiful way with piano,
strings and solo female voice.
Aside from Guy's Film and
Television work, he has written and produced music with artists such
as the Sugababes, the Appletons, Mica Paris, Duran Duran and
Charlotte Church. His stunning production and string arrangements
can be heard on the track Don't Worry (a Top 10 UK hit) for the
Appleton's and on the tracks Caught and Conversation for the latest
Sugarbabes album. Guy also worked on the track Tonight by Amy
Winehouse for the film Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason. Guy’s
advertising credits include Lloyds TSB with Michael Nyman, Cancer
Research, NSPCC, Gordon’s Gin, Lynx, Galaxy, ‘Bratz Passion for
Fashion’, Cable & Wireless, Motorola, the Teacher Training
Agency, Compaq and Fifa.
Showing a
great talent for melody and thematic writing that evokes warm
memories of the French master Georges Delerue, Guy Farley will
definitely be one of film music stars of tomorrow. He has recently
scored the political drama Land of the Blind
starring Ralph Fiennes and Donald Sutherland. Stay
tuned for more Guy Farley news as we will keep a very attentive eye
on this amazing talent!"
